The psychoanalytic frame can be used to curate spaces where individuals can exercise forms of dialogues that they were previously unaccustomed to, where patterned layers of assumptions and identifications can be revealed, often in surprising ways.
These experiential contexts bring new forms of discourse that allow a measure of intentionality and insight in individual and group behavior. Apart from two-person settings, I work with institutions in curating bespoke contexts that occasion psychoanalytic encounters at the group level.
Sleeping inside another’s dream
A curation as part of the “We are what we are not”exhibition at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne, Germany.
In collaboration with lead artist Yohannes Mulat Mekonnen, we created a frame in which participants could audit their memories by noticing what avails itself in the gaps where remembering fails. After listening to the dreams of strangers, they are invited to narrate them in a psychoanalytic performance. Between the dreams they hear and the dreams they tell, new contents are spontaneously produced, revealing something particular about them.

An event series created by Adbern, a project based in Bern, Switzerland aiming to platform the heritage of East African movement art.
Led by Dawit Seto, these events allow participants to move in choreographed, dramatized manners representing collective experiences that have not yet gained public dialogue. By exploring alienation and community in embodied practices, participants are encouraged to identify their experiences in dialogue.
